Cap-and-Trade is another way of saying 2+2=5

The Obama White House has spent the week furiously working to convince its fellow Democrats in Congress to support the global warming bill that's before the House today. Former Vice President Al Gore has been working the phones, and there was even a luau at the White House last night.

The question that must be asked, however, is why? If the case is closed on man's role in causing climate change, as the left assure us that it is, then why the need to twist Democratic arms to do something about it?

My guess is it has something to do with 2+2=4.

This simple arithmetic - 2+2=4 - was a rallying cry during the Polish Solidarity freedom movement in the 1980s. It meant that, even though the government would try to tell the people that 2+2=5, to be free, the people had to tell the truth, that 2+2=4. Because to deny the truth was to deny reality, and to do that was to surrender freedom to the government.

Something similar is happening with the global warming bill.

The sponsors of the global warming bill, which is known as Waxman-Markey, are telling Americans that not only will the legislation save us from calamitous climate change, it will also produce new jobs and new prosperity by transitioning America to new forms of "green" energy.

In other words, under Waxman-Markey, there's no trade-off necessary to save the planet; no price to be paid. It's a win-win-win.

Right. And 2+2=5.

We are first all Americans that vote. Our vote does not belong to any party. Register as an independent. Taking our vote for granted will no longer be something they can count on.
Republicans will work harder to show that they can get rid of corruption from their side and site the Democrates who are in bed with "K" street and other unsavory organizations like Acorn, and Unions who they have paid off for votes.
The current President is out of control and is using CZARS that only answer to him. They have their own budget,and create new levels of bureaucracy. They could in time usurp the power of an already corrupt congress.
We then would have only a Supreme Court
between us and the President.
This is a manical power grab akin to nothing that has ever existed in such a powerful nation.
How do we bring a solution to this Socilistic Idelog ?

Obama is not to blame, it is the 50 % of the voters that wanted a black person in the office.
They expect the black will help the black.

How about it, you black people, has the free car, house and six pack of beer arrived at the mail box yet?

I bet the blacks are real proud to see Obama (one of their own) make a fool out of the black race.

When are those that voted for this rag-head going to realize that he can't give them what he promised because that is in his nature. LIE, LIE, LIE and LIE.

I can not argue as well as most people who have left comments recently.
I only have this to say. America is being set up to fail. And the man leading this is the President. WHY? There could be a number of reason...just use your imagination. Don't forget he was a crafty Senator before he became the President. He knows his way around the political play ground.
A solution: Get him out of the White House in fact fire the whole lot! Lets start over by putting true men and women with integrity and character back into our government.

You obviously disagree with Newt's stand on the cap and trade/health care/environmental issue. You keep slamming him about where is his siolution, but I don't think you have done your research. There have been plenty of alternqatives offered, but the demagogues in charge ( democrats...Obama's puppies) are hell bent to create a power surge for themselves by forcing the American people to be dependent on handouts from the government, thereby ensuring their re-election...because you don't bite the hand that feeds you. What I want to know is...are you demanding answers from your president who promised your "transparency in government". Where is your transparency? His Congress dropped 300 additional pages into this 1200 page document at 3:09 A.M. More than 200 representatives voted for it without having read it...for all they knew they voted to sell New Jersey to Japan! (which would serve them right considering several of the traitors who voted for the bill represent New Jersey!) And this isn't the first time the Dems have conspired to hide their agendas,..remember the stimulus package? The one that put your children that you are so worried about in debt for the rest of their lives? Yeah, it was also doctored up in the middle of the night and the vast majority of representatives voted yes without reading it. Now, don't get me wrong, the Republicans are just as dirty...at least the ones in office at the moment. The ting you don't understand is that you and every other uninformed voter out there put these politicians in office. You chose not to look at the facts that were being screamed across the talk radio airwaves. You decided to take the mainstream media's word for it and vote for a man who has ALWAYS had radical associations. You and half of the country went bleating along like good little sheep. So, now that the mint sauce is ready, don't go losing your head and saying you didn't know he meant to EAT you for dinner, not have you OVER for dinner. You asked for CHANGE and by God, you have it. Just because it isn't the change you heard him promise, doesn't mean it isn't the change he promised you...You just didn't do your homework and read between the lines.

I completely agree with you. Homeowners being forced to make expense upgrades to sell their homes would be an absolute disaster. They are going to send a federal agent to your house to decide what "rating" it deserves. The rating will help determine the value of your house. They are going to over-ride the market and TELL YOU how much your house is worth based on a FEDERAL BUREAUCRAT'S opinion. It is insanity. Can you imagine the home selling process - having to wait for your federal agent to rate your house and then decide if you should pump thousands into it to get fair market value? I'm sure they haven't thought about that. Because liberals don't think beyond the talking points, sound bites and grandiose theories. They have no idea what it's like in the real world. We already have a system in place that encourages energy efficiency - it's called the FREE MARKET. Most people when shopping for a home look for newer windows and updates. That's fine. But on the other hand some people, like me, prefer the character of an older home and enjoy the FREEDOM to choose to keep the charm of older features, like original windows and doors. If the market decides the property is worth less, that's ok. But in many cases here in New England, beautifully restored older or historic homes with original features are worth MORE. So now, what? the Federal Government is going to come into my house and tell me to rip everything out and put in what THEY consider acceptable? The very idea of it is frightening and sad.

People are already making choices based on their own free will to be energy efficient. WE DON'T NEED THE GOVT NANNY TO MAKE US DO IT.

Excellent Job in handling the testimony on the Hill, Mr. Speaker. However, you missed one, I believe from Mr. Markey, that I wanted to comment on ... in one of his questions to you, the gentleman (ahem) prefaced the comment with some verbal garbage about "save the world" ... I was actually excited to hear him say it because I just 'knew' you would tear him apart. However, you simply responded to some other part of the assertion (I believe a challenge on the impact to each family), and left this easy grand slam in the dugout.

Nonetheless ... there is a consideration here that I have not heard anybody discuss. My understanding is that some provision of this disaster will require that homeowners upgrade their homes to extremely expensive new standards before being able to even sell them. Will this not completely collapse the banking industry as folks with 100% loans simply abandon their homes vs digging up thousands or tens of thousands of dollars to upgrade?

Oh, and finally, to MotherofTheFuture ... first off, nobody is stupid enough to believe you really care about children, or else you would be far more concerned about the disasterous long term consequences not only in economic terms, but in terms of freedom. Regardless of how you feel about children, this disaster has NOTHING to do with carbon emissions, by their own admission this will have very little impact (even if you only focus on the U.S., which is an obscenity of ignorance). Regardless, every effort to curb emissions in developed nations has resulted in GREATER emissions globally, as industries abandon the stranglehold of government for third world gas chambers that burn 'dirty' fuels with much less regulatory control.

Nevertheless ... Speaker Gingrich has proposed dozens of far more beneficial solutions ... I am sure you know that given that this site is filled with positive, effective and beneficial proposals.

As a mother, I am writing this for the sake of our children, who don't have a voice.
Where is YOUR Solution, Mr. Gingrich? In your article, I don't see what you are proposing that would make more sense!
I gave your article a rating of 1. The reason is that I expect more from you than this verbal blurb intended to slash a bill, damage a reputation, or "Just Say No".
Since the government of our people is really in your hands, and your entire lifestyle is funded by our taxpayer money, don't waste our time with your lazy man's game of darts, just aim and throw, because, gosh darn, it is just so much fun, and it is your job, isn't it?
I am a parent, and I want to know, are you a father, do you care about children? Rich people's children? or all children!
What are YOU doing, Mr. Gingrich, to make 2 + 2 = 4 for our children-that's what I want to see.
Forget the rhetoric and show me solutions so I can give my children some pride in their country!!!

Compassion-everytime you do something to discredit other politicians, you are creating a world of hate for people who are just like you, Mr, Gingrich, doing the best to create solutions. How does that help the children of the future? Show some adult, mature, ability to recognize the strengths of all leaders, even if you don't agree. How could that hurt? As a mother, I see so much of the "work" of political leaders being nothing more than kids in a sandbox fighting over hills of sand and toy Tonka trucks. It's time to grow up and CARE about what you want to change.
Change isn't worth anything if it doesn't increase Compassion.
Intelligence-First of all be smart enough to realize that just because most of us didn't have an Ivy League education, we are not a mindless mob. We see the subtleties of what is happening, and we see the dangers we are in now and in the future. Show me the MONEY, the plans, the solutions you are generating to meet the challenges our children are now and will be facing.
Answers-Give us real answers to real problems. Stop wasting time. Stop wasting our money. Stop tolerating inertia. Do the Math, and give me "4". What is your answer to 2+2? What does your "4" look like, how much will it cost, when will it happen, how much work will it take? Just throwing darts at other leaders' solutions has nothing to do with what your better answer would be. Give me that! Global warming was changed to "Climate Change" because everyone can argue about global warming bu no one can debate that the climate doen't change.

Everything they do is designed to destroy what's left of the middle class, the greatest generation, and anyone else who knows what liberty really is.

They allow 20 million illegal immigrants in because they have no clue what liberty really is. They will never miss what they never had.

They fail to assimilate all legal immigrants because they want the foundation of this country to disappear. You can't crontrol a truly free people and they know it.

I don't know who our government works for, but I am absolutely certain they do not work for us.

Oh, they sometimes come up with a few good things here and there... just to make the bitter medicine go down smother.

I watched the voting on this bill (and John Boehner read some of the 300 pages that came out a 3:09 AM) and I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT ANY AMERICAN WOULD VOTE FOR THIS.

I'm telling you the only way to change Washington is to change Washington. VOTE ALL THAT VOTED FOR THIS BILL OUT.

Obama could do one thing for America, RESIGN OR DROP DEAD.

Shouting "NO!" worked in the last Congress because the balance of power was even.

Now, "NO!" won't do, we need to promote the solution taxpayers have been funding this whole time that FIXES any and all Energy/Environment issues moving forward.

All the networks and Including Fox had nothing about this important legislstion on Cap and Trade, All about MJ.. I did not see anything on this impotant bill until about 7 PM Friday eve. Itried to call my Congressman but could not get throught so I used Email No answer... Newt who were the 4 repubs who voted for this monstrosity

If Bernie Madoff gets life, for burning some people for $50 Billion, what should be the punishment for a government that burns the American people for Trillions, and costs millions of people their jobs? I'm thinking, if the Senate doesn't stop this, and the American people actually suffer these damages, they'll be looking to the French Revolution for ideas.

Global warming is nothing more than a platform for Al Gore to make millions on his continued speaking engagements. As long as this issue remains a topic, he continues to get richer. He must be giving kick-backs to those who continue to stir it up. Gore and his Gulfstream jet all over the world, Polosi and her weekly trips to and from California boy are they concerned. They want everyone else to make sacrifices, but not them.
How much did Obama spend bringing the 747 to Las Vegas on May 26, 2009, along with his hundreds of people just to speak at a fund raiser for Harry Reed. Boy there went some emissions to promote global warming, not to mention our tax dollars. I don't want my tax dollars going to support Harry Reed. I want him in a rest home.

Today's vote was very disappointing. Not only were we treated again to a rushed vote following the delivery of a 1200 page bill that no one was reading, along with 400 corrections at the last minute, but the 5th district of Virginia was shafted by a first-term congressman who has no idea of the values of his district. What does it take to convince a young congressman that 50% of the energy we use comes from coal- much of which comes from the Virginia area? What does it take to convince a young congressman with values from Charlottesville and Beverly Hills, CA that one of the largest manufacturers of nuclear power generators is in his neighboring district and employees hundreds of employees, including engineers from his district? Newt, are these young dems totally bought and pocketed by the president and the speaker, or do they have any recognition of the values and lives in their own districts?

We can solve all of our problems with one move and make both sides happy simply by controlling the price of oil. During your testimony you referred to the Bakken Formation. Therefore you know we have more oil reserves in North America than all known oil reserves combined in the world. I was disappointed when you did not correct the Senator when he said we only have 3% of world reserves maybe 4% when you consider the Bakken Formation. What would it do for the Global Economy, the world problems with Russia, Venezuela and Iran if oil was selling for $30.00 to $50.00 a barrel? With all of our natural gas Obama can order his car companies to build one out of three cars to run on clean burning natural gas. Think of all the high earning, long lasting jobs that would be created in the oil industry without being subsidized with tax dollars. We could pay off our national debt within 20 years and how many states could discontinue charging State Tax with oil royalties.
I rest my case.

I agree with many of the comments, but my question is - how do we change things? I live in a congressional district where cap n trade is anathema, but we need a '94-style revolution. Can this happen again? I know Newt can't lead it within Congress - but he must know someone who can, or how it can be done without. I refuse to believe we cannot shock the world again. If Pelosi and Reid are gone in 2010, 2+2 can equal 4 again. From my little corner of the world there is MUCH more energy than in '94 - but how to channel it? 2010 - Back to the Future should be our mantra!

The problem is, the entire subject is a lie. Man is not causing climate change, the universe is. But we have allowed the Left to legislate and regulate and tax using lies as justification for as long as I've been around (53yrs), so this is nothing new. Our national debt and our deficits are a reflection of this "system", of taking money and regulating economic activity - taking money - to pay government to do things that it cannot do effectively or efficiently. We lose the money, and the "goal" is never achieved. OR IS IT? Our children haven't been educated, or transportation systems are (what's the opposite of state-of-the-art?), crime is constant, personal happiness and families are waning, the borders are meaningless, and yet our government continues to demand raises for the jobs it fails to complete. However, the Left has purchased voters, with welfare and open borders, and union workers, and public employees, and elderly who are now dependents, holding out their hands for crumbs. And the world's bankers are rich, servicing our debt. And foreign countries are getting rich, lending us money. And public employees are living pretty good. IF we do not privatize this country, and it we do not Americanize our government, all of these discussions and frets will be pointless, because the American nation will cease to exist. You cannot have a system based on lies. 2+2 NEVER equals 5! If government hasn't educated our kids effectively, it never will. If we trust government for our retirement, we will retire in poverty. If we expect it to deliver meaningful transportation system, we'll end up taking buses that go nowhere. If we continue to ignore these historical truths, we will perish under the weight of our lies.
