Newt: Broaden Base With Alternative Anti-Tax Agenda

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, whose signature manifesto swept Republicans to power in the mid-1990s, called Wednesday for conservatives to recruit Democrats who oppose tax increases and big government and form a coalition to do battle with President Obama's "fantasy wing of the American left."

Mr. Gingrich in an interview pointedly left the door wide open for a 2012 run for the White House, proposing a specific prescription for the ailing conservative wing of the Republican Party. He offered stark alternatives to the Obama agenda on health care, spending, education and national security that could build a framework for what he called a "potential" run for the presidency.

"If you look at California on the recent vote against raising taxes or spending, when you get 64 percent of the state voting with you, it tells you that in the most Democratic districts of the state, there was a solid majority against raising taxes and spending," Mr. Gingrich told editors and reporters at The Washington Times.

Being a resident of SC and a conservative, I believe the Governors actions to be deplorable and is not representative of his constituency. If public funds were used, they should be re-payed.

Having said that, please recall the Clinton-Lewinski scandal and the magnitude of money spent in what was a sad circus. The magnitude of mis-used funds was far greater with time wasted by the court systems, by Congress and all the collateral money that was spent in that process.

Stop trying to put shiny objects on the ground, stick to the issue at hand: less, more effective government, whether Dem, Rep or Independent. The far left and far right need to keep each other in check while the rest who really want to get something done need to get over it and get to work.

I would think you conservatives would be in favor of raising taxes.

If you cut taxes, how are you guys gonna finance your trips to Argentina to visit your hooker mistresses? As it is now, you steal taxpayer money to finance your trips.

Tell us more about your family values. Tell us more about how you cherish the sanctity of marriage.

C'mon, tell us..........

Newt is right. It doesn't make him less of a conservative to reach out to anti-tax democrats. Look at the dems that voted against Cap & Trade. They realize that if they vote for everything on Obama's radical agenda their political careers are toast. We are a center right nation and they KNOW IT.

You just don't get it. Newt is making money off speaches, pointing fingers and selling books.
He talks a big talk but carries a small stick.
He is a republician and demorcat or republician means LITTLE OR NO HELP TO THE WORKING MAN/WOMAN.
Once a politician always a politician.

Newt, how about getting down in the dirt with us common folks and put your plan in writing and START KNOCKING DOWN OBAMA like you really care for America.
Take off the satin gloves, call a spade a spade.

YOU elected these people SO YOU MUST BE HAPPY.

Mr. Speaker, this is pure defeatism. What you're saying is that we can't win as Conservatives Republicans?? So we need to find and recruit blue dog dems? If Conservatives stay on message and they become vocal, in-yer-face advocates for Mom/Pop Middle America and U.S. Workers seeking private sector jobs, then we can win anywhere. Even in California. But instead we allow people like McCain, Arnold and Crist to wrest control of "our" party. We allow the GOP Hierarchy, the MSM and the democrat party to hijack our primaries and push the true conservative leaders out. And we wonder why we lose??

Mr. Speaker, please! Be more of a critical "Independent" and less of a yes-man Republican. Stop allowing this defeatist attitude to creep into your thinking. Darvin Dowdy

I fully agree, as no one likes to pay more taxes. Also, it will be almost impossible to see the results of improved government services from an increase in taxes.

As crazy as this may seem, I personally believe that considered Democrat strongholds like California, could be up for grabs and are very vulnerable to Republican in-roads in the future. The recent amendments in California to both say no to more taxes and define marriage between a man and a woman indicate that hispanics do carry with them family values and also rely on themselves, rather than the government for their opportunities and prosperity. In other words, hispanics as the largest growing demographic in California, are the ones voting like conservatives!!

So yes, let's reach out to people who dont like paying additional taxes, expand our base and we will see that we can win in states like California in 2010 and 2012!!

Regards,
The Digital Jeffersonian
