New Poll: Your feedback on "political correctness" and the Ft. Hood tragedy

We've received alot of feedback from you in our search for a new term to reflect the gravity of the "political correctness" mindset that led to the Ft. Hood tragedy. Your comments in the previous blog post, as well as tweets and facebook comments, have been great, and we'd like for you to vote below on which term you think is best:

I'd call it an RBI - 'relativism-based inequality '- the idea that one persons actions should be treated differently than another person who did the same thing based on current trends in political relativism. I like it because it also points out that it is other people, not the victim or the accused who causes it to happen - a third party causes RBIs by going to bat for the criminal no matter what the accused wants or believes.

It wasn't the fear of being called PC by Hasan that stopped the military from taking action - it was the military's fear that a non-military third party (misinformed Muslim support groups, ACLU, popular opinion, the media) would attack them that led them to being PC.

My term would be "Diversity Rot" as in the degradation of an institution through the promotion and inclusion of members, for reasons of "diversity", that are not the best available, highest performing, most competent when judged blindly against their peers.

Prior to becoming a terrorist...A worthless soldier\shrink.. such as Maj Hassan would be rightfully termed a "Rotter".

DON'T CHANGE IT! Nobody uses "Politically Correct/Incorrect" ever to denote anything but scorn for a sheep-like mindset. You could never reproduce the amount of ridicule it invokes with some new phrase. On second thought, go ahead, what are you going to do, say I'm politically incorrect if I don't use it?

Frankly I prefer Government Ineptness

People may chose to try and give offense, but the recipient must decide to take offense. The pitfall of PC is that it is an attempt to "ensure" that offense cannot be taken - which is denying a basic freedom that we all have to think our own thoughts.

A new term for this behavior or intent already exists - Appeasement. The product of appeasement is an every sliding race to the lowest efforts, the most base of desires and the enslavement of the people by those who have been propped up as "the wise".

There is a great short story that beautifully captures what I am trying to say here. "Harrison Bergeron" by the author is Kurt Vonnegut. All hail the Handicapper General!

There is also a Novel that address this issue well and somewhat the antidote, "Naked Empire" by Terry Goodkind, in presenting the Wizard's 8th rule: Deserve Victory - defined as "Be justified in your convictions. Be completely committed. Earn what you want and need rather than waiting for others to give you what you desire."

I'm suffering from CF: compassion fatigue. That's my reaction to PC.

Head stuck in anatomical cavity. I presume you are taking about Hasan's terrorist act.

"Political Wrongness" seems most appropriate to me. "Correctness" may have been the cause but "Wrongness" is what happened.

The left and CAIR often accuses anyone that tries to make the connection between Islam and terror as having 'Islamophobia'. Someone who doesn't want to be appear as politically incorrect or doesn't want to be accused of having 'Islamophobia' might have 'Offendophobia.' That is, fear of stating the obvious because they don't wish to give offense. Another usage might be politically correct-induced Offendophobia.

Disgusting. You took this national tragedy and politicized it. Way to disrespect the dead

Obamapidity - the stupidity exhibited by this administration concerning the real world.

It was interesting to witness the gross denial of the obvious fact that this was an Islamic terrorist attack - just like all the others.

It's sick that our government refuses to wake up and call a spade a spade.

Islam is a violent religion that encourages and promotes this behavior and the Muslim world needs to address this problem and basically change their religion's teachings.

Even though most Muslims are not terrorists, their silence encourages the radicals. It was sick to watch Muslims cheer as they watched the aftermath of 911.

Obama's regime trying to 'align the stars' in favor of the international community he bows to. The reason: his power ambition is beyond the U.S. borders…The UN maybe? He is the most inexperienced president in the history of the world. Have you thought he got to the Oval Office ONLY because his charisma? Scary...Either he's a lucky fella or he just sold his soul...

'Suicidal Sensitivity' is an apt synonym.

The Origins of Political Correctness
"... We call it "Political Correctness." The name originated as something of a joke, literally in a comic strip, and we tend still to think of it as only half-serious. In fact, it’s deadly serious. It is the great disease of our century, the disease that has left tens of millions of people dead in Europe, in Russia, in China, indeed around the world. It is the disease of ideology. PC is not funny. PC is deadly serious. If we look at it analytically, if we look at it historically, we quickly find out exactly what it is. Political Correctness is cultural Marxism. It is Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms. It is an effort that goes back not to the 1960s and the hippies and the peace movement, but back to World War I. If we compare the basic tenets of Political Correctness with classical Marxism the parallels are very obvious..."

Political Correctness: The New Communism
"Political Correctness" is the name given to a set of political policies that have been promoted in Australia, New Zealand, Britain, the United States and Canada since the 1960s. These policies are constantly changing, and what is "politically correct" in 1970 may no longer be "politically correct" in 2000. People become aware of "Political Correctness" when they or someone else fall victim to it. Some examples of people who have fallen victim to "Political Correctness" are as follows:.."

I think Dennis Prager called it "Moral Cowardice in the Face of Truth."

How about "Diversity Blinders"?

By Anonymous @ Tuesday, November 17, 2009 12:42 PM
Andy McCarthy said it best in his book title: "Willful Blindness."
