As you know, Newt has a twitter page in English at www.twitter.com/newtgingrich. Now, we have a Spanish language version at twitter.com/gingrichespanol.

In the past few weeks, we have received many comments about Newt's outreach to Spanish speaking Americans. Many wonder why Newt would do this.



After all, Newt has said clearly on numerous occasions that English should be the language of government in the United States.

To be clear, Newt adamantly believes ALL new Americans must embrace American values and culture, and that learning English is essential part of that process. In addition, there can be no debate that learning English is an essential step for new immigrants to prosper in America.

However, it is equally important that all new Americans understand the important issues facing our country. New Americans, even if they have learned English, may still be more comfortable in their first language. And certainly, America has a long tradition of many languages being spoken here, even as English has been the language that has united us all.

We encourage to share our efforts at outreach in Spanish by sharing the website and twitter feed with your friends and neighbors who speak Spanish as well.
