Newt Gingrich Steps Up Efforts to Mobilize Religious Conservatives
The former House speaker has launched a group that aims to unite social and economic conservatives

At a time when many religious conservatives say the Republican Party is ignoring their issues and taking their support for granted, former House speaker and GOP idea man Newt Gingrich is turning his attention to the concerns of conservative Christians like never before.

Gingrich has launched an organization devoted to bringing conservative evangelicals and Catholics into the political process and to strengthening the frayed alliance between economic and religious conservatives. Called Renewing American Leadership, the group is led by Gingrich's longtime communications director and includes some of the country's top conservative Christian activists on its board.

This spring, Gingrich will speak to a handful of large gatherings for politically conservative clergy that have been organized by David Barton, an influential evangelical activist who spearheaded the Republican National Committee's rigorous outreach to pastors in 2004.

And this fall, Gingrich is planning to release a movie about the role that Pope John Paul II's 1979 trip to Poland played in bringing down the Soviet Union.

"In the last few years I've decided that we're in a crisis in which the secular state, if allowed, will fundamentally and radically change America against the wishes of most Americans," Gingrich said in a phone interview on Thursday. "You've had such rising hostility to religious belief that I wanted to reach broadly into the country and dramatically raise public awareness of threats to religious liberty."

Here in the Heartland we are already are uniting by working every hour, every day to bring the FairTax to a vote in Congress. We desperately need Newt's voice to join Mike H voice to spread the message. It is not only a main street issue it is our children's issue. It will SAVE OUR NATION issue.

Beating a wet horse, that's all that is happening.

We need a dictator with iron balls.
We have two groups now (Rep.,Dem.) and look what that has got us.

Only problem in this country is there are too many people that can't tell RIGHT FROM WRONG.

Taking GOD away from schools and politics is why this country is headed for HELL.

But you put these people in office so you must be happy.

Jesse100 you are right about not needing more groups that put out more information to get us angry and frustrated. We need action groups. Groups that take a summary of the info and organize action. Look for wethepeopleministy.com coming soon and get ready for true conservative action!

How many more groups do we need? I applaud the effort but we need to do more than keep starting new groups. I am not entirely sure of what we need to do but we need strong leadership that people will rally around.

You have to unite social and economic conservatives? Isn't that group already the Republican base? So - you have to launch another group, whose aim it is is to unite the base?

I guess that means you are writing off moderates?

Here's the truth. If the Left is not removed from power, there will be no future for religious freedom in this country, save for those "faiths" that the government approves or licenses. This is a fact, and I say this as someone who is of no "faith". I speak only as a political historian, and as an American fundamentalist. We are teetering on the edge of the Abyss, and we will be VERY lucky if this country doesn't have another Civil War, between "Americans" and these internationalist leftists. If we don't get them out of power, their ambitions and their policies, being incompatible with our culture and our political system, won't be satisfied until the United States ceases to exist.

This is TRUE but for the Democrats also.

Newt, this is what we need. Stir up the people, get groups formed, protest, call congressmen/women, get out bumper stickers, get well known people to speak for us and show America we are tired of the BS, theives and crooks that are NOT doing what the Constitution and the voters demand.

Burn some Congressmen/women at the stake would not hurt.

America NEEDS TRUST, RESPECT and leaders that tend to the voters business NOT THEIR PERSONAL BUSINESS.

I think the working men/women should not turn in any tax returns this year to get the governments attention that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

But the voters put them in office so the voters must be happy.
