GINGRICH: In the case of health care, if I have to
choose between my doctor and a government bureaucrat, I have zero doubt
which one I want. And I think that it's very important that we not
allow a bureaucracy to get set up. ...
JOHNSON: But you right now, you say that you don't
want the government between you and your doctor. But right now many
people have the private insurance office between them and their doctor.
They're arguing constantly with their insurance company about what
they'll cover, what they'll pay for.
GINGRICH: Right. And in that setting, if you don't
like your current insurance company, you can change insurance
companies. But if you ended up with a single national health system,
you wouldn't be able to change bureaucrats. And if you look at the
experience in France or Canada or Great Britain, if you look at the
waiting lines in Canada, where, despite three years of effort, they've
not been able to shorten the waiting lines, because in fact the system
doesn't work.

Something atypical liberal and atypical Obama happened during this interview. Listen carefully when Dr. Johnson stated that he flies planes a lot and is re-assured of the role of the FAA in guaranteeing air safety. He used this as an example, insinuating that if the Federal Government has an important and contributing role in the airline industry, why cant it have one in HealthCare? At that point, Newt should have responded, "No Tim that is a false comparison. The government does not own an airline that competes with United Airlines, American Airlines, Southwest etc. The FAA is purely a regulatory body, just as the FDA is for the pharmaceutical industry; it does not have to compete with the other airlines. And if the government was to try to get in that business, I guarantee you that the quality and efficiency of it's services, would be as bad as services received during any trip to the DMV or Social Security Local Office that many Americans have to suffer through.
If the Obama Administration wants this plan, then it is up to them to justify the results of government run healthcare in countries like Canada and Great Britain. It is up to them to justify the decisions of these National Healthcare bodies, refusing certain lifesaving medications because of cost. It is up to them to answer to the numerous complaints from the citizens of Canada and Great Britain.
My friends, we have to attack on this issue. We can no longer agree on any premise the statist media and socialists democrats present. We have to stop them by disagreeing completely with the premise of their argument and getting them to defend the state run healthcare systems in Canada and Great Britain.
Sincerely, The Digital Jeffersonian

I think we have not yet even started an intelligent debate about health care and Obama’s plan is going destroy the best system in the world. There are two fundamental problems with health care right now: 1) There is little competition at the actual care level; selecting drugs, treatment, and doctors based on price. They ask if you have insurance and can inflate the price if it serves their pocket book. 2) Health Insurance is trying to do too much. Does your car insurance cover an oil change, new tires, plugs etc? No. If it did it would cost more. People do not understand what causes inflation of health care cost. I suspect that new tires would cost a lot more if they were covered by car insurance. Health Insurance should be for cancer, HIV, emergencies, and other unexpected things. Individual health care accounts would encourage competition and could be used to help low income people without handing government all the control of the system.
