Let's look at Newt through Ronald Reagan's eyes for a moment.

Reagan used to have a saying he called "The Eleventh Commandment."

"Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eleventh_Commandment_(Ronald_Reagan)
http://www.ronaldreagan.com/campaign.html

Reagan first embraced this idea in 1966 and used it religiously until he left office in 1989. Repulicans learned this lesson the hard way in 1964.

Did Reagan hold this view because he sacrificed his principles? Or was it that he shrewdly understood that to speak ill of fellow Republicans only serves the purposes of the other party?

Many are upset with Newt, and for good reason. We let him know it. All good things.

And then, some take that last step: "RINO!" "Not a real conservative." "Get out of the party." "Go away." And we play EXACTLY into Democrats' hands. Just know that they are LOVING us right now. (Need proof? See Valerie Jarret's comments of 11/1/09.)

Keep the GOP division alive . . . 3rd party cadidates . . . split votes . . . Democrats win.

Reagan did not sacrifice his principles. He simply recognized that the REAL threat was an out-of-control government, not those who's conservative pedigree didn't quite stack up.

Some on other pages have suggested that Newt needs to go away because he has abandoned Reagan Conservatism. If we understand Reagan at all, it becomes clear that using a comparison to Reagan as a justification for banishing Newt is a truly bizarre notion. If we espouse Reagan by completely ignoring one of his central tenets, we lose. And we deserve to.

I hope this is a wake up call for Newt and the other Republicans. We are not interested in party affiliation but the character of conservatism. "Can you hear me now"?

Why would this fatuous old man think anybody wanted to see pictures of him on some tour?

Newt is, I think, just a week behind the movement he started in 94. Give him a chance here. He's one of us...really. He probably wishes he could back track a bit, but he's down with the struggle overall.

-------------------------------------------------------

I don't doubt for a minute that Mr. Gingrich is a conservative. In my opinion, those labeling him a RINO are mistaken.

However, his initial endorsement in the NY-23 race revealed, to me, that he too easily and willingly compromises conservative principles when he thinks doing so is pragmatic. Because of this he can NEVER be our leader.

Before this, I would have supported him in a presidential run. Now, I will oppose him vigorously. We have been stabbed in the back by our own too many times before (hello John McCain). Never again. Palin may not be as smart or well spoken as Newt; but at least I can trust her.

Newt it distressed me greatly that you didn't back the conservative Hoffman to begin with, the RINO was a ridiculous choice ,, that's telling me if Obama calls himself a Rep he's got your support , What's up ,,,get on the right side , or become a Dem.

Newt has always supports a RINO. I will never forget in 1998 his answer for the greatest President of The United States. "FDR" was the answer. The founder of most of todays problems. Newt said so himself. I guess he never heard of Reagan or his conservative ideas.
