Having just read the book: The Deporter by Ames Holbrook, I think we have serious problems with our State and Homeland Security Departments. If we can not deport illegal immigrants who are criminals, and the courts rule that we must release them back on the street after 6 months, we as a nation are in big trouble. I hope your readers will check this book out as it adds a little known dimension to the problem of illegal immigration.

By definition, a republic is operated by the principle of the "rule of law." If a person is in this country illegally, they should not be afforded the same rights as legal citizens, pure and simple. Basic human rights must endure, but we must be strong enough as a country to deport those who are here illegally, who put a strain our medical and governmental resources (while many U.S. citizens are denied some of these same benefits), and those who defy the "rule of law" by violating the law several times over and are not held accountable by law enforcement and the judicial system. Representation without taxation is not the system by which our country was founded or should operate. With "citizenship" comes rights; with rights come responsibilities; with responsibilites come respect for the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of other citizens. I appreciated Mr. Newt's analogy of FedEx and UPS vs. the federal government. It is the quintessential juxtaposition of efficiency vs. inefficiency. Those who support liberal politicians for the office of chief executive in 2008, should remember that a vote for an elitist liberal, is a vote for larger, more cumbersome, more inefficient government. Those who support the idea of the federal government redistributing wealth like Robin Hood, are voting for socialism. Those who support the idea of the economy redistributing wealth are voting for capitalism. If the federal government can't find millions of illegal aliens with the efficiency of a FedEx or UPS, then how is the federal government going to do anything but become a more embedded, wasteful bureaucracy? Has the federal government done anything right? If it has, how long has it taken for it to happen? Those who are waiting around for a left-wing chief executive to take office had better be prepared to wait a long time the federal government to do anything substantive. Federalism is a political principle that is designed to share power between the states and the federal government; not give all the power to the federal government. How do we expect the states to enforce laws if the federal government cannot enforce laws? We need another Contract with America, and we need it fast, before we become another socialist society, where taxes are so high and the government is so efficient, that nothing gets done in an efficient manner, individual rights are forsaken, and spending spirals out of control. Limit the size of government, limit the power of government, and you will increase the efficiency of government because lawmakers will have to do more with less.
