Adolescence as a failed cultural model and the signals of success

Speech Clips Title: Adolescence as a failed cultural model and the signals of success
Date: March 27, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

Newt describes how the 19th century concept of adolescence fails young adults by robbing them of engagement in the adult world. Instead you have 13 year olds imitating 17 year olds, all trapped in a system of forced boredom.

Thank you for affirming what has astonished me since my children entered public school.

You should see the looks I get from educrats and church/Youth leaders alike when I refuse to allow my kids participate in the adolescent culture of today.

And the vitriol comes when I question their methods and teaching tools inside the classroom.

Yet, it is my children that can be counted on to help run the church and are the "best and the brightest" of the schools.

Hello! Could it be that I am doing something right? (Of course not, I don't have a politically correct degree. I just have a solid BA, a good work ethic, and much good, common sense.)

I'll take the chances on my parenting, thank you.

My kids will thank me when they are 25, self-sufficient, happy productive members of society instead of identity diffused, bounce back drains on the public service industry.

I agree that our school leadership is failing to provide students the right opportunity to move into the present day society and be ready to contribute to business and social needs. This idea of providing an incentive to learn, rather than losing 4 years of opportunity is the right way to go! Looking at past history will provide most of the answers we need today!! I am in favor of turning our nation from a red vs. blue to a red, white, & blue nation! A country born and raised as a "WE THE PEOPLE" nation, not a government run Nation!

I agree 100% with this idea. This youth culture mentality is destroying our country. These kids are bored.

I see even the churches have adopted this idea. They create youth "romper rooms" instead of training young adults to be active members of the church. These kids are then at a loss when "youth group" ends and therefore nearly 98% drop out of church. We are failing yet another generation.

Our job as adults, parents, youth leaders and teachers is to train them to be adults and function in the adult world.
