"Anonomous" has it about wrong on the scale of use in terms of energy. The USA could be vastly closer to self sufficiency if we just gave General Electric the order to build out 60-100 nuclear plants. Indeed we need to get away from using oil to generate electricity & for internal combustion as well. If GE built out a nuclear grid like they could we'd have a handsome income on a hemispheric basis becuse our neighbors wouldn't have to use oil either. (If the French could do it why can't we?) Add to that, 2 billion tons + of exhaust effluent not dropping on ourselves per annum?

With all of these great ideas, why then did you NOT get into the Presidential race. If you believe as strongly as you do why did you dance around the pool putting your tootsies in testing the waters? Jump in you would have gotten used to it. Ronald Reagan didn't wait for capital to run a race, he believed in America and the cash came later.

Americans comprise 5% of the world's population, and yet we consume over 20% of the world's resources. Do the math. This situation is not only unsustainable, it is unconscionable. We want more countries to emulate us, and yet imagine - just imagine - if others were as gluttonous as the United States has become.
"Real change requires real change," and that change will have its roots in conservation, plain and simple.

For some reason, I never heard about the evils of speculators when people were buying 4 houses and driving prices up 30% annually. Now, people are tripping over themselves to bail out those speculators. I don't hear anything about punishing farmers who are selling grain for 4x what they did a couple years ago - we're giving them more subsidies. Moreover, the farmers speculated on land prices in the 70s and were killed on it in the 80s, we didn't say "good - you got what you deserved." Instead, there were Farm Aid gatherings for 10-years and federal bail-outs. Speculation is good - it makes markets work - this is the land that in theory has a 50% free market - let the market work!

America is a log and it's slowly spiraling down the toilet, ironically flushed by the members of the House and Senate. America is gouged daily with exorbitant increased costs of gas, electricity, food, prescriptions, insurance and quality of life which far exceeds the cost of living increases anyone other than CEO’s experience. Until term limits are FORCED upon the members of Congress we will continue to suffer, due to the inabilities of a system of decision less decision makers. Newt for President…

How can the congresss claim to represent the people of the United States when the people are saying DRILL and they say no? I say vote everyone of them out! They do not have our best interest in mind. Maybe they can afford to buy gas, but most of us can't. Also, if they won't be tuff on terroism and we are poofed right off the face of the earth our economic situation won't matter, neither will global warming which I believe is a crock anyway.

Hey Newt, It's no secret that Congress and our inflationary currency is responsible for oil prices. Did you know that a 1947 silver dollar will still buy a gallon of gas as it did in 1947 also, Just before you dump all that oil on the market could let me in with all your other friends in order that I might sell oil options short.
